LANXESS RO tech improves Slovnaft performance.

The German specialty chemicals company has reported that its Lewabrane reverse osmosis (RO) B400 (high rejection) membrane elements have been in service at a water treatment plant serving Slovnaft's Bratislava refinery for more than eight months. LANXESS's technology is used to process water taken from the Danube river, which contains about 320-400 mg/L of dissolved solids, a variable quantity of organic fractions, and exhibits an electric conductivity of around 580 uS/cm. Once the water undergoes chemical pretreatment (via coagulation and flocculation), it is processed by the RO system, producing demineralized water that exceeds specifications to be used for boiler feed, steam circuits and other refinery applications.
