Indian state refiners to get in on South American crudes.

As US production of shale oil has risen in recent years, displacing imported crude, Latin American producers have looked to other markets. In fiscal year 2005/06, Latin American crude shipments of just 46.2K b/d accounted for only 2.3% of India's demand, but by 2012/13, the volume had increased to 672.4K b/d and the percentage to about 20%. The volumes went primarily to India's private refiners— Reliance Industries accounted for nearly half of 2012/13 imports from Latin America with a 300K b/d deal with Venezuela's PDVSA—while state firms looked to Middle East providers.
