Sources report that the airline has signed a five-year deal with Texas-based midstream firm Bridger to supply its 185K b/d Trainer, Pennsylvania refinery with 65K b/d of domestic US crude, a move which the company hopes will significantly improve margins at the plant. Delta Air Lines bought the Trainer refinery in 2012 in hopes of cutting its jet fuel bill, but the facility has struggled to turn a profit since; now, the company hopes to improve margins by replacing some of the 140K b/d of expensive, mostly Brent-linked oil from Norway and Nigeria that currently feeds the plant. Initially, Bridger will supply Bakken crude from North Dakota, though this may change later on. The midstream firm is acquiring 1.3K tanker cars to deliver crude to Enbridge's Eddystone, Pennsylvania terminal, where it has a contract to load 80K b/d onto barges capable of serving the Trainer facility.
