A study by Purvin & Gertz Inc. show mat low-sulfur crude oil imports into the US will drop by 500K b/d by the next five years as production of shale oil widiin me country increases to 900K b/d by 2015 and to 1.3MM b/d by 2020. New pipelines will help transport oil to the Gulf of Mexico: once the Keystone XL expansion is approved and completed, 500-700K b/d of crude will be sent to Texas from Albertan bitumen reserves.
