US crude imports continue to fall in wake of rising domestic output.

According to statistics from the API, US crude production in Jan. was 9.1MM b/d, the highest level for that month since 1988. With the increase in production on the month, Jan. crude import levels were reduced by 5.2% from year-ago levels to 7.5MM b/d, the lowest monthly import level recorded in 17 years. Crude oil inventories on the month were down 4.4% from Jan. 2013 to 361.1MM bbl. For 2013, total energy imports declined by 11% with crude imports down 16% and gas imports down 14% compared to 2012 levels.
