Sources say that historically, US Gulf Coast inventories of residual fuel oil tend to be lower than heavy distillates stockpiled at the world's biggest bunking hub in Singapore; over the last five years, Singapore stocks have been greater by an average of about 534K bbl. Times are changing, though. In 2014, Gulf Coast stocks have risen to an average of about 2.3MM bbl greater than the Singapore stash, and according to the latest data from the US Energy Information Administration and International Enterprises Singapore (the latter being a branch of the country's Ministry of Trade and Industry), USGC fuel oil stocks have now risen 4.078MM bbl above Singapore's, the highest since hitting 5.2MM bbl above the Asian hub's stocks in March 2014.
