In his speech at the eighth S Kxishnaswamy Memorial Endowment Lecture organized by Indian Chemical Industries Association on Nov. 8, P.N. Devarajan, former Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Organic Chemicals, said refiners around the world stand to gain from adopting cold cracking technology to pretreat heavier crudes. "This process significantly reduces the temperature of cracking. No catalyst is required, while the reaction can take place at room temperature and pressure," he said, adding that the technology can offer a rapid return on investment by boosting gross refining margins by up to $5/bbl.
