Gazprom Nurtures Upstream Ambitions

Under pressure from the government - as well as analysts - to sink more money upstream, Gazprom has drawn up ambitious plans for new developments in West and East Siberia that could be producing around 230 billion cubic meters per year (22 billion cubic feet per day) of gas by 2030. But not all will necessarily come to fruition: WGI understands full-scale development in West Siberia will hinge largely on Gazprom's growth prospects in Europe - where it is struggling to make headway - as well as Russia, while the East Siberian projects will depend mainly on its ability to pin down customers in Asia.
