The start of 2012 has been subdued for LNG spot trade. Prices in Northeast Asia plunged by 750 over the week to $16.05 per million Btu as traders geared up for the New Year festivities, and in Southwest Europe shed 300 to $9.70/MMBtu, according to WGI assessments for spot cargoes four to eight weeks out. Day-ahead prices at the UK National Balancing Point (NBP) dropped by 610 from Dec. 19 to $8.22/MMBtu, as assessed by WGI, while January futures fell by 260 to $8.42/MMBtu.
