Demand for both electricity and natural gas itself remained on a negative trend line through the third quarter, helping explain the still over-supplied state of the US gas market. The best that could be said of the quarter is that the often double-digit year-on-year drops weren't quite as large as in the first half of the year (WGI Aug.l2,p8). But results still hold out scant promise of strong improvement even into 2010.
