When it comes to wading into Canadian political matters, Ihe Japanese ambassador generally treads pretty lightly, particularly on sensitive issues involving Ottawa and the provinces. Yet His Excellency Kenjiro Monji threw caution to the wind when he wrote to Canadian environmental regulators last week admonishing them for again delaying a decision on the massive Pacific Northwest LNG export project in British Columbia, a development in which Japanese company Japan Petroleum Exploration (Japex) is a partner. Unless the government moves quickly, Monji warned that it could be another decade before the window of opportunity opens for Canadian LNG exports to Asia.
