Canaries Eye LNG Import Terminal

Spain's new industry minister, Jose Manuel Soria, who hails from the Canary Islands, has moved to end years of stalemate over a planned 1.3 billion cubic meter (940,000 ton) per year LNG import terminal on Tenerife, the largest of the islands. The ministry last week sent a "resolution proposal" to energy regulators at CRE, which must now compile a report into the plans, after which the ministry may authorize construction of the terminal at Puerto de Granadilla in southern Tenerife.
