Algeria may have as much as 1,000 trillion cubic feet of shale gas buried beneath its millions of square kilometers of sands, gas that could fill its export pipelines and LNG plants for decades to come, the North African nation's minister of energy and mines said at last week's CeraWeek 2011 conference in Houston. Youcef Yousfi said Algeria has just begun to tap vast gaseous hydrocarbon resources that are comparable in size to the shale and other unconventional gas deposits identified in the US and Canada over the past decade.
