Contracting is finally afoot at Algeria's two LNG export projects — Skikda and Gassi Touil — but progress on that front has been countered by some slippage in the schedules for new export pipes. The chief executive of Algerian state Sonatrach, Mohamed Meziane, announced last week that a construction contract for the 4 million ton per year Gassi Touil LNG plant would be awarded this month, adding that the 100% Sonatrach-run LNG project — "from upstream to transport to liquefaction" — is progressing and targeting start-up in 2011-12.
