Strong demand from European consumers continues to delay the onset of the previously dependable summer upswing in US imports of LNG(p2).Electricity prices in Spain have been soaring this year,on the back of a shortage of hydropower,a spike in demand and the same carbon emission cost issues that are boosting power prices across Europe(WGI Jun.l5,p7).The price of EU emission allowances hit a record euro24.05(29.20)per ton early this week.With same-day Spanish electricity at 6.774 euro cents per kilowatt hour(81.85 per megawatt hour)last Monday,buyers could breakeven paying up to 11.70 per million Btu for gas to fire an efficient power plant,WGI calculates.
