Denmark Makes Big Push for Wind in Ambitious Energy Plan

The Danish government has unveiled an energy plan designed to deliver many of the low-carbon goals outlined by the new government installed last October. The proposals, set out last month in an Energy Agreement that won the backing of seven of the country's eight major political parties, envisage that, by 2020, 35% of domestic energy supply should come from renewable sources and 50% of electricity from wind farms, and that gross energy consumption should drop by 12% from 2006 levels. While ambitious, the targets are achievable — although meeting them will hinge to a large extent on whether two proposed big offshore wind farms, Horns Rev and Kriegers Flak, actually go ahead.
