Europe needs a clearer stance on energy policy that includes a "geopolitical dimension," according to OMV Chief Executive Gerhard Roiss. While Western Europe's gas consumption is in decline, the reverse is true of southeast Europe, "where many countries are [almost] 100% dependent on imports from one country," he says — meaning Russia. "If you want to reduce dependency on gas imports, build Nabucco West. If not, or if you don't care, build the Trans Adriatic Pipeline [TAP] to Italy," Roiss told the annual OMV Media Day in London last week.
