Elgin Could be Out For Rest of Year

About 10% of UK natural gas output could be off line for the rest of the year as Total struggles to stem a gas leak in its North Sea Elgin-Franklin complex. Elgin-Franklin, the UK's highest-pressure and highest-temperature (HPHT) development, produced roughly 4 billion cubic meters last year (386 million cubic feet per day), but has been shut in since Mar. 25, when Total reported the leak in its G4 well (WGI Mar.28'12). Since then, UK storage has drained from a peak of nearly 2.87 Bcm, or 60% full in early April, to 2.47 Bcm (52% full) at the end of the month (WGI Apr.25'12).
