The spot LNG purchasing by Tokyo Electric Power Co.(Tepco)that propped up global LNG markets over much of the last year could be approaching an end if the utility succeeds in ongoing efforts to bring one unit of the mammoth Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power complex back on line early this year(WGI Nov.l2,p8).A successful restart of Unit 7,where fuel reloading began in November,would pave the way for bringing the other six units back into operation,ahead of previous forecasts by Japanese safety regulators that the entire facility would remain out of operation at least into 2010.
