The French gas industry is up in arms over the failure of President Nicolas Sarkozy to make allowances for gas use in the green agenda he is promoting in the run-up to climate change talks this December in Copenhagen. Energy companies feel especially threatened by a proposed carbon tax, slated to come into effect in January, under the likely assumption that parliament will approve it in time.
