摘要

Slovakia is one of a handful of European countries — mostly in the eastern part of the continent — that is not just talking, but acting to expand its nuclear fleet. The relatively small Central European country has five operational reactors with installed capacity of roughly two gigawatts and intends to bring 840 megawatts of new nuclear capacity on line within five to six years, so it can resume earlier net exports of electricity. In late 2006, Slovakia became a net importer after closure of the 408 MW Bohunice unit 1 cost it 5-6 terawatt hours per year of domestically generated electricity. The similar-sized Bohunice unit 2 is due to close this year.
