Pertamina Seeks New Natuna Partners

Indonesian state Pertamina was ready and willing to take over the stalled Natuna D-Alpha Block even before Energy Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro announced Tuesday that talks with previous operator Exxon Mobil on a new production split had failed. Before the cabinet meeting that preceded Purnomo's announcement, an Indonesian energy official confirmed to WGI that Pertamina had already short-listed three international oil firms as potential partners in the project: BP, Royal Dutch Shell and Norway's Statoil. Pertamina is reportedly now being asked to submit a detailed "action plan" on the block within three weeks.
