SPOT LNG Asian Buyers Reel as Outages Push Spot Prices to Two-Year Highs

Buyers in Northeast Asia have been stunned by a $1.40 jump in spot LNG prices to $9.40 per million Btu over the past week, continuing a bull run that has pushed prices to levels not seen in nearly two years, according to World Gas Intelligence assessments for cargoes for delivery four to eight weeks ahead. Spot LNG prices in Southwest Europe rose 350 to $6.80/MMBtu. The UK National Balancing Point (NBP) day-ahead price dropped 90 to $5.66/MMBtu, while January futures fell 80 to $5.68/MMBtu. Netbacks for Mideast sellers in Asia were about $2.60/MMBtu higher than in Southwest Europe, while UK/Belgian netbacks were $3.65/MMBtu lower than in Asia.
