Underlining the long and uncertain duration of Qatar's moratorium on new gas export projects, Total's vice president for the Mideast region, Ladislas Paszkiewicz, told the 13th International Gas Summit in Paris last week that the moratorium will probably be maintained until 2012 or 2013, adding that it is "reasonable" that the country should wish to manage fields for the long term in order to optimize resource management. Numerous studies are under way and there will be much more reflection before the moratorium is lifted. "Today, it's not on the agenda," he concluded in reference to lifting the new project ban.
