The "common understanding"reached last week by Algeria and the European Commission on certain clauses in state Sonatrach's sales contracts is basically a compromise in which the EU has softened its opposition to profit-sharing arrangements that give sellers part of the benefit of profitable resale deals,while Algeria reciprocated by agreeing to do away with all destination restrictions in existing,as well as new contracts.
