摘要

Getting natural gas into power generation in West Africa is an aspiration that's perked up foreign investors' interest in a region where many utilities now burn far more costly die-sel, heavy fuel oil and jet fuel. Projects like the US Power Africa campaign, launched in mid-2013, have the potential to create major new power generation project opportunities and gas will be the fuel of choice. But despite its huge gas endowment — Nigeria boasts some 182 trillion cubic feet (5.15 trillion cubic meters) of gas resources — the region is so chronically gas-short that it's even being spoken of as a future market for US LNG exports.
