Gas Development Creeps Forward in Northern and Southern Iraq

Exploiting Iraq's gas resources is proving a slow affair -both in the south, and in the northern semiautonomous Kurdistan region. In the south, an ambitious scheme to gather associated gas faces fresh challenges as oil production targets are revised down, with gas flaring set to remain a serious and potentially growing problem in the near term, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). In the north, lack of progress in setting a domestic gas price, along with longer-term uncertainties over an export route, continue to constrain output.
