Gazprom is to give Ukraine a 30% discount on Russian gas bought for injection into storage this winter, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Oct. 8, reducing the price Ukraine pays for such gas to about $260 per thousand cubic meters ($7.25/ MMBtu). But the Russian gas giant does not appear to have heeded calls from Poland for a second price cut in less than a year: Talks with Polish state-run PGNIG ended in Gdansk on Oct. 7 without confirmation of any reduction (WGI Nov.7' 12).
