JS Natural Gas Market Rallies on Cold

The US natural gas market is bulling its way into winter, riding a frigid November and early December to price levels not seen since summer. The December contract rolled off the board at S3.818 per million Btu after a five-session rally added 26.20, or 7.4%, to the price. The expiration was 320 higher than last month and was the highest December contract expiry since 2010. It also set the Henry Hub index price for this month at $3.82, up 330 over last month. That paled in comparison to the New York city gate price, which appeared to get caught up in the market's cold-weather euphoria, leaving monthly prices at New York leaping $1.42 to $4.94/ MMBtu. But that was nothing compared to the price jumps seen in New England, where Boston city gate prices soared more than $9 to over $14/MMBtu.
