Statoil Tries New German Pricing

Statoil, still one of the highest-priced sellers of oil-indexed natural gas into Italy, appears to be trying out new forms of sales contracts with gas-fired generators in Germany. The Norwegian firm's gas marketing chief, Rune Bjornsen, told Reuters last week that it "struck a deal linked to power prices in June and is looking for repeats." The deal to which he was referring is a 15-year contract with a new 600 megawatt combined-cycle gas-fired plant being built by Stadtwerke Dusseldorf (SWD), with deliveries planned to start in 2016.
