Amongst the Canadian companies operating in the Philippines is Philex Gold Inc (TSXV: PGI), which, through a 50:50 jv with Anglo American, has discovered the Boyongan copper-gold porphyry deposit, part of the North project, in the province of Surigao del Norte in southern Mindanao. Late in 2005, Anglo commenced a 17,000 m infill drilling campaign to bring the project to the prefeasibility stage. The latest results from holes TSD-81 to TSD-83, which include highlights of 496 m at 0.67 percent copper and 0.86 g/t gold from 124 m in hole TSD-81, and 517 m averaging 0.57 percent copper and 0.55 g/t gold from 105 m in hole TSD-82, suggest that the extent of the Eastern High Grade Zone can be expanded.
