Randgold Resources rolling in Mali

It has been an exceptional twelve months for London-listed Randgold Resources plc (LSE: RRS) (Randgold). Its part-owned Morila mine, in Mali, has grown beyond expectations to rapidly become one of the lowest cost and largest gold mines in the world; it has boosted its cash reserves by 70 million US dollars; increased its liquidity through a NASDAQ listing (now under the ticker GOLD) and a subsequent share split; and its shares have outperformed the market and its contemporaries. But the situation today is in stark contrast to its fortunes in the mid- to late-90s when its one operating asset, Syama mine, in Mali, was performing poorly and draining the company's financial resources.
