Fisheries production in coastal regions along Thailand's eastern and western seaboards close to Bangkok has been badly affected since October by heavy flooding in central Thailand as the huge volume of floodwater slowly drains off into the Gulf of Thailand. Fishermen growing shellfish and cage culture marine fish are among those badly affected by the high volume of freshwater flowing into the sea along with pond farmers growing shrimp in nearby coastal provinces.
