Physical and chemical properties of fruits from Sakkoty date palm trees propagated using tissue culture and planted in clay soil were studied during the 2006-2008 seasons. Trees were fertilized with organic manures (farmyard manure or town refuse) mixed with chemical fertilizers during the 3 seasons. Beneficial effects of organic manures were reflected in physical and chemical properties of the dates produced and leaf contents of some minerals. Results showed that the average yield (kg/palm) of Sakkoty dates, fruit and flesh wt., fruit dimensions and fruit size were significantly higher when organic manures mixed with chemical fertilizers were applied in the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Application of fertilizer at a rate of 120 kg/palm resulted in a more positive effect on TSS, and total, reducing and non-reducing sugars percentages in the dates produced, compared with the other 2 application rates investigated (60 and 90 kg/palm), and also gave the highest leaf N, P and K contents in the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Generally, superiority of farmyard manure, followed by town refuse manure was recorded. Results indicate that incorporation of chemical fertilizers with organic manures may result in synergistic effects on fruit physical and chemical properties, and leaf mineral contents of Sakkoty date palms.
