Asenior Hong Kong-based economist predicted the Chinese Government's Ninth Five-Year plan (1996-2000) will have a positive influence on Hong Kong's economy. Tang Kuangyao a key economic consultant to the Hong Kong government, said the five-year plan released last year is "a good one" which sets a suitable growth rate for the nation's economy. Tang said the believes that if the plan is carried out to the letter it will help the mainland economy avoid fluctuation and achieve steady growth in the coming years, which will be good for Hong Kong since the two economies are closely linked.
