Nuts: Walnut Research In California

A GREAT deal of walnut research is conducted in California each year. Much of this is funded by the walnut industry itself, through the Walnut Marketing Board, Following is a very brief report on some of these projects. The walnut improvement programat University of California (UC)-Davis has given this state's walnut industry some important varieties, Its objective is to breed varieties similar in quality to Chandler, but with earlier harvest. Other objectives include incorporation of resistance todiseases and insects.
