FOR growers in regions with adverse weather conditions, top grafting of new variety plantings can be a big challenge. Because of this, some Cornell tree fruit researchers say bark grafting, with a few modifications, can be a more successful endeavor,at least as indicated in their trials. Grafting needs to be nearly completely successful to be profitable since the additional cost of regrafting and the reduced early yields can significantly reduce the profitability of this procedure.
