Many of the nation's leading fruit nurseries say they are committed to providing growers with new options. As with most other nurseries, the focus at Burchell Nursery, according to Tom Burchell, is continued breeding success. "We have always had a very successful breeding program and we continue to improve upon varieties of peaches, plums, nectarines, apricots, cherries, almonds, and rootstocks," says Burchell. "Three of the top five peaches planted in California have come from our breeding program."Growers are getting more experience with the Cornerstone rootstock, notes Burchell. "It is our new hybrid root-stock with excellent vigor, anchorage, and yield efficiency."
