Researchers shine a spotlight on alternative weed management tools. HERBICIDE use is the most common weed management tool in most industrial countries. However, because of increasing public concerns for health and environment and development of herbicide resistance in weed populations, weed control options that were considered impractical or costly at one time are now being revisited. Similarly, there is a growing demand from organic producers to develop non-chemical weed management methods. As a result, alternative weed management methods, including controlling weeds through various heating options, are inching toward the spotlight.
