WHEN Native Americans used fish remains to fertilize their trees hundreds of years ago, they never knew that it might have also been killing unseen insects and diseases. But, this may be exactly what is happening, says Jim Braasch, agronomy products manager at Omega Protein Inc., a Florida-based organic supply company. Braasch says that, while fish oils have been used on organically grown citrus for a long time, recent studies have shown the product may have applications as a fungicide and even an insecticide.
