An Australian program offers safe-produce certification for U.S. suppliers. Acurrent move in the supermarket industry requiring assurances from produce suppliers that they are providing sate products has those suppliers, including those shipping fruit, seeking ways to satisfy those new requirements. In fact, one of the nation's largest supermarket chains gave those suppliers until the end of April to satisfy several key requirements beginning with the development of safe production manuals. Next, suppliers are required to conduct self-audits using criteria described in those production manuals.
