Replacing the perfect fumigant: The short-term outlook for alternatives to methyl bromide is pretty bleak, but the future holds promise
The problem with methyl bromide is it's too good. Ozone layer argument aside, there's no doubting MB's ability to clean up soil. The cost is reasonable too. And there's the rub. Because MB has been so good for so long (since 1932) it has had no major competition. And now that MB is being taken away, growers could use a little healthy competition.
