IT was a new personal best: I stayed on cruise control at 80 mph on California's Interstate 5 for 2 hours and 23 minutes without touching the brakes and disengaging the cruise control and having to reset it. Looking back on the odyssey, I must have taken out half the leafhopper and aphid population with the oversized windshield and grill of my upgraded rental car. Oh well, A record was at stake. Woe betide any leaf-munching pest that got in my way that day. My version of organic pest control.
