From its origins in New Zealand in 1934, the Gala apple has gone on to win world-wide acclaim as a tasty late-summer selection. GALA is the premier group of apple cultivars in the U.S. today. Over the past 25 years, I have been evaluating Gala cultivars at Frecon Fruit Farms in Boyertown, PA; at Stark Bro's Wholesale Co. in Louisiana, MO, and at my research blocks in grower orchards in New Jersey.
