Controlled release fertilizers may be pricey, but Golden State strawberry growers are finding they are worth it. For decades, California strawberry growers have wrestled with a thorny problem. They plant in late October and early November, just before the rainy season normally hits. Unfortunately, the rains leach the fertilizer the growers apply out of the root zone, leaving the young crops undernourished. But now many growers have found an answer to the problem with controlled release fertilizers.
