Protecting peach buds

Soybean oil may be the key to reducing late-spring frost damage. Late-spring frosts and the damage they cause to fruit buds have long been a head- ache tor peach growers. Scientists across the country have been working for several years to find waysto protect buds, and researchers at the Tennessee Agricultural Experiment Station (TAES), Knoxville, TN, may finally have hit upon a solution. They realized that by delaying bud development and peach bloom by six or seven days, the chances of trees incurring frost damage could be reduced.
