Aquaculture potential in the Rivers State of Nigeria

The Federal Republic of Nigeria is Africa's most populous nation with around 106 million people (Figure 1). Although once viewed as one of Africa's leading and fastest growing economies, after 15 years of military dictatorship Nigeria is now ranked among the poorest nations in the world. With its substantial endowment of important natural resources, particularly oil, and a two and a half year old democratically elected civilian government, Nigeria today, is hoping to pick up the pieces and move forward.
