BMI View: The Avaldsnes and Aldous discoveries are the largest on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) since the 1980s and they may yield contingent recoverable reserves of up to 2.6bn barrels. This will transform the fortunes of Lundin Petroleum and may help slow the decline in Norwegian output. Nevertheless, this type of discovery is likely to be the exception rather than the rule as the NCS matures.
