Plankton-nutrient dynamics in channel catfish fry and freshwatershrimp growout ponds

Earthen pond aquaculture is a common method for fish and freshwater shrimp production. In the United States, channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) production accounts for over 80 percent of freshwater aquaculture revenue. Freshwater shrimp production (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) has grown rapidly in the past 10 years, currently accounting for about five percent of total freshwater revenue (National Agricultural Statistics Service 2004).
