摘要

This paper discusses the role of selective breeding in the expansion and efficiency of the current and future aquaculture production. Highlights of the paper includes: status of breeding programmes for aquatic species, what has been accomplished?, reasons for few breeding programs in aquaculture, initiating breeding programs for aquatic species, and consequences of using selective breeding in aquaculture.
